Suga of BTS Completes Military Service, Group Set to Reunite in 2025
SEOUL, South Korea — Suga, one of the prominent members of the globally celebrated K-pop group BTS, has officially completed his mandatory military service. This marks the return of all seven members from their enlistment duties.
Big Hit Entertainment announced that Suga finished his service on Wednesday, using his remaining leave days, with his official discharge set for Saturday. The agency chose not to hold any events for Suga’s release to avoid potential overcrowding.
For fans of BTS, this is a significant moment. With all members having completed their service, they plan to reunite as a group in 2025.
In recent weeks, other BTS members, RM and V, were also discharged from their military duties. Jimin and Jung Kook followed suit a day later. All four members had enlisted back in December 2023.
Out of the group, six members served in the military while Suga fulfilled his duties as a social service agent—an alternative form of military service. Jin, the eldest member, was discharged in June 2024, while J-Hope completed his service in October.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 are required to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months, aiming to deter threats from North Korea. Special exemptions exist for top athletes and musicians, but K-pop stars do not qualify for such privileges.
In 2020, a change in law allowed BTS to postpone their service until age 30, prompting public debates about whether they should receive special exemptions. Ultimately, the group’s management confirmed in 2022 that all members would fulfill their obligations.
As Suga and his bandmates look to the future, fans eagerly await their reunion and new music from one of the world’s biggest K-pop sensations.
