Hurricane Gabrielle Forms in Atlantic, Another Storm off Mexico
A new hurricane, named Gabrielle, has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of Bermuda. According to the National Hurricane Center, Gabrielle strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday, with sustained winds reaching 75 mph. The storm is moving north-northwest and is expected to continue on this path, potentially passing east of Bermuda on Monday.
While no coastal warnings are currently in effect, officials are advising residents of Bermuda to monitor the storm’s progress. Large ocean swells from Gabrielle are already affecting Bermuda and are expected to reach the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, from North Carolina northward, and into Atlantic Canada in the coming days.
Meanwhile, in the Pacific Ocean, Tropical Storm Narda has formed well off the southern coast of Mexico. Narda currently poses no immediate threat to land. The storm has winds of around 40 mph and is moving northwest, further away from the coast. Forecasters say Narda could strengthen into a hurricane as it moves further offshore.
