Ben Stiller, son of comedy legends Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, is talking about what it was like growing up in Hollywood. He says that being around famous people from a young age showed him the not-so-glamorous side of the industry.
In a recent interview, Stiller mentioned his new documentary, “Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost,” which looks at his parents’ lives and careers. He explained that as a kid, he saw the stress and strain that fame can put on relationships.
“Growing up around it…you actually, as a kid, see the dark underside of it. The stress. The effect it has on relationships,” Stiller said.
Even though he witnessed the challenges, Stiller knew he wanted to be a part of the entertainment world. He said that his parents’ success gave him opportunities, but also showed him the difficulties of Hollywood life.
The documentary explores his parents’ partnership and how their relationship shaped his own comedy and drive.
Stiller also talked about a decision he regrets: cutting his daughter, Ella, from his movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” He called it “the worst decision” he ever made, explaining that it had to do with his own perfectionism and work habits.
Despite the ups and downs, Stiller’s story shows that family and values can play a big role, even in the world of Hollywood.
