Arson Investigation Underway in Spartanburg County
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Local authorities responded to a reported arson incident on Saturday at a residence on Old Birch Road. When deputies arrived, they found the fire department working to put out a house fire while the homeowner, Jackie Gregory, looked on.
Gregory informed the deputies that she suspected her nephew, Timothy Bridges, was responsible for the fire. This suspicion arose after a heated argument in which Bridges allegedly expressed a wish for Gregory’s death.
A witness recounted that on Friday night, Bridges had threatened to burn down the house. The following morning, he made no further comments on the fire and reportedly went to take a shower shortly before the flames broke out.
The house belonged to Gregory, having been passed down from her late father. Although no one was living in the residence at the time, Gregory used it for storage and had plans to renovate it eventually.
Deputies engaged with Bridges for questioning, and he was later arrested and booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center. He faces a charge of second-degree arson and has a bond set at $15,000.
