Astronauts Arrive at Space Station After Medical Scare
Cape Canaveral, Florida – The International Space Station is back to its full working order after four new astronauts arrived Saturday. They are replacing crew members who had to leave earlier than expected due to a health problem.
SpaceX successfully transported the American, French, and Russian astronauts to the station.
Last month, NASA had to bring astronauts back to Earth early because one of them experienced a health issue. To ensure the safety and well-being of the crew, the agency took swift action to bring them home.
Now, Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway from NASA, Sophie Adenot from France, and Andrei Fedyaev from Russia will be staying at the station for the next eight to nine months. Meir and Fedyaev have been to the space station before, bringing valuable experience to the team.
Adenot, a helicopter pilot, is only the second French woman to ever travel to space, marking a great achievement for her nation and for women in science. Hathaway is a Captain in the U.S. Navy.
Upon arriving at the space station, Adenot greeted everyone with a cheerful “Bonjour!”
The new arrivals were welcomed with hugs and high-fives.
NASA has not released details about the astronaut’s health issue. The astronaut returned to Earth sooner than planned.
The space agency has said that they did not change the medical checks before the flight for the new astronauts.
