South Sevier Claims 2A Drill Title

South Sevier High School Drill Team Claims State Title

Orem, Utah – The South Sevier Sensations have once again taken the top spot in the 2A drill team competition. After placing second for the past two years, the team achieved victory at Utah Valley University (UVU) on Friday night, excelling in all three performance categories.

The Sensations’ performance marked their 14th championship in the school’s history. Previously, South Sevier held an impressive winning streak from 2014 to 2021.

Coach Deidre Jenkins praised the team’s dedication. “This team’s drive to set high goals and to break both individual and team barriers is what sets them apart and makes this season so special,” Jenkins stated.

Duchesne High School, which had won against South Sevier in the past two seasons, secured the runner-up position across all categories this year.

Jenkins shared that the team particularly enjoyed their dance routine, set to Queen’s “Somebody to Love.” She explained, “The unique style of this song allowed our girls to express their passion for dance and each other.”

The team’s success was evident throughout the regular season. South Sevier entered the 2A state tournament ranked number one. This accomplishment followed their first-place finishes in regional competitions.

“(The seniors) were determined to set the bar high and push themselves and their team to break through some barriers that had been holding them back since their last championship,” said Jenkins.

The South Sevier team includes the following members: Ellieanna Bennett, Rachel Child, Kynlee Goble, Bella Hansen, Valarie Hansen, Jozie Hutchings, Layla Jenkins, Jada Jenkins, Makenna Jolley, Allie Keele, Kesslee Keele, Laityn King, Emma Knaphus, Landree Larsen, Halle McKinlay, Bliss Melville, MaCall Monroe, Amilyn Morrill, Briar Palmer, Hadlee Parsons, Violet Parsons, Madison Phelps, Emma Pieper, Paysley Pieper, Allison Riddle, Madison Riddle, Saylor Riddle, Sayla Smith, Matti Sorensen, Kessler Staples, Prezlee Tobler, Gracie Winegar, Eva Wirick and Tessa Woolsey.

Jenkins is supported by assistant coaches Lisa Shaver and Shauna Blake.
