South Carolina Welcomes Official Christmas Tree at Statehouse, Carolighting Scheduled for November 24th
COLUMBIA, SC — South Carolina’s official Christmas tree has arrived at the Statehouse, officially kicking off the holiday season for many residents. The stunning 35-foot Norway Spruce comes from Henderson Tree Farms in Morganton, North Carolina, an area that has faced challenges due to Hurricane Helene.
Connor Maser from Timbertech, a tree management company, noted the importance of the Columbia Garden Club’s role in selecting the tree. “The garden club helped pick out this special tree, which takes decades to grow,” he explained.
Despite the warm weather in Columbia, locals are excited about the tradition the tree represents. Charlene Slaughter from Experience Columbia SC shared her thoughts on the event: “It just doesn’t feel like Christmas until we light up that tree. This event, which brings our community together with music and entertainment, is crucial to our holiday spirit.”
This year, the tree will sparkle with over 13,000 new LED lights and 900 beautiful silver and gold ornaments. However, these lights won’t shine until the 58th Annual Governor’s Carolighting on November 24th.
Miss South Carolina Davis Wash, who will host the event, expressed her enthusiasm: “I admired the Carolighting from afar last year and knew I wanted to be part of it this time. Seeing the Christmas tree near the Statehouse is going to be a beautiful experience.”
Festivities for the Carolighting will start at 4:30 PM on the 24th, with the highlight of the evening, the tree lighting ceremony, set to begin at 6 PM.
