An elderly man in Florida is in trouble with the law after a shooting that hurt his son.
William Nowak, who is 84 years old, is facing a charge of trying to kill someone. Police say he shot his son in the face after they had an argument at Nowak’s house.
The trouble happened on December 9th at Nowak’s home in Palm Bay, Florida. Police were called to the house because of a shooting.
According to reports, Nowak was upset because his son and daughter-in-law hadn’t been visiting him enough. Even though they came to see him every week, he felt it wasn’t often enough.
During the argument, Nowak reportedly told his son to leave or he would shoot him.
Police say that Nowak then went into his bedroom, got a gun, and shot his son in the face in the kitchen. After the shooting, he was confused and upset, asking “What just happened?” and started crying.
Nowak lived at the home with his 85-year-old wife, who is receiving hospice care at home, and their 62-year-old daughter, who has a disability. Nowak was the primary caretaker for both of them.
The son was rushed to the hospital. The bullet broke into pieces and got stuck in his face and jaw. Nowak was also taken to the hospital because he had high blood pressure.
Nowak is now in jail. A judge said he will not be released on bail.
