A young man in Florida is facing trial for the murder of his adoptive parents, a shocking crime that happened in their home back in 2023.
Robbie James Tower, 49, and Jennifer Christine Tower, 51, were found dead in their North Port, Florida, home on August 31, 2023. Police were called to the scene late that night.
Their 24-year-old son, Dima Jones Tower, is accused of the killings and is now on trial.
According to official documents, police went to the Towers’ house after a neighbor called 911. The neighbor said a woman, covered in blood, ran to her door screaming for help. The neighbor didn’t see the woman, but found a lot of blood on her steps.
When officers arrived, they saw Dima in front of the house with blood on him. He ran away, but police caught and arrested him.
Inside the house, police found Robbie and Jennifer in the living room. They were lying face down in a pool of blood. Robbie had a stab wound on his back, and Jennifer was covered in blood from injuries that weren’t clear at first.
Investigators described the scene as very violent, with blood everywhere in the living room, on the furniture, in the kitchen, and even on the front door.
Robbie and Jennifer had adopted Dima from Ukraine in 2016, when he was 14 years old.
The couple’s social media showed pictures of a happy family. Jennifer’s profile picture on Facebook included a “Pray for Ukraine” message, which she posted after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Court records show that Dima had been accused of hurting someone in the family before.
In 2020, he was arrested for domestic violence. The person he allegedly hurt said that Dima threw him across the kitchen while he was putting away groceries. The person suffered a cut on their forehead and scratches on their back.
However, a judge later dropped the charges.
Friends and family remember Robbie and Jennifer as kind people who were very involved in their community.
Jennifer enjoyed watching birds, and Robbie was known for his sense of humor.
The reason behind the killings is still unclear. Dima has said that he is not guilty.
In court, his lawyers plan to ask the jury to find him guilty of manslaughter, which is a less serious crime than murder.
