Northeast Braces for Winter’s First Punch After Midwest Travel Snags
The Northeast is preparing for its first significant snowfall of the season, just as the Midwest begins to recover from weather-related travel delays experienced around the Thanksgiving holiday.
Forecasters are predicting up to 10 inches of snow in parts of northern New England. A potentially icy and windy storm is expected to impact the region.
Winter storm warnings and advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for several states, including Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, and New York. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
This comes after Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport experienced a record-breaking snowfall for a single day in November.
While the Midwest sees improving conditions, the storm is moving towards the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, potentially bringing up to a foot of snow to some areas.
Officials in Pennsylvania began treating roadways, including the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in anticipation of the snow. The Pennsylvania Turnpike has winter staffing in place.
In New Hampshire, the Department of Transportation is running a campaign to name snowplows, aiming to engage the community in winter preparedness.
Travelers in the Midwest are working to get home after flight delays and cancellations impacted airports like Chicago O’Hare.
