HBO has officially kicked off production on the eagerly awaited “Harry Potter” TV series. The announcement came on Monday, along with a first glimpse of the main character.
The image shared by HBO shows Dominic McLaughlin taking on the role of Harry Potter. He is seen in the classic Hogwarts uniform, complete with round glasses and that famous lightning bolt scar, reminiscent of the iconic look portrayed in the films.
Filming is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, U.K., and the series is set to premiere in 2027.
A new cast has also been announced, featuring Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. Earlier, McLaughlin was confirmed as Harry, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Other notable cast members include Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley.
This new series marks a significant return to the beloved world of “Harry Potter,” arriving nearly 14 years after the last film adaptation was released. Since the debut of the franchise’s first installment 28 years ago, it has expanded into blockbuster films, a successful Broadway play, video games, and theme parks.
HBO has promised that the series will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books. It aims to introduce a new generation to the enchanting characters and stories that have captured the hearts of fans for over 25 years.
