Pittsburgh, PA – Two star pitchers, Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers, are being recognized for their outstanding achievements. Skenes was awarded the National League Cy Young Award, while Skubal earned the same honor in the American League for the second year running.
Both men expressed gratitude for the awards but emphasized their desire to see their teams succeed. Skubal, nearing the end of his current contract, voiced his commitment to Detroit. Skenes, while pushing back against rumors of wanting to leave Pittsburgh, reiterated his goal to bring a winning spirit to the Pirates.
“The goal is to win, and the goal is to win in Pittsburgh,” Skenes stated, emphasizing his commitment to changing the team’s narrative.
Skenes had an impressive season, leading the major leagues with a 1.97 ERA and striking out 216 batters. Skubal also shined, leading the AL with a 2.21 ERA and 240 strikeouts.
Skubal emphasized the importance of striving for continuous improvement and aiming for the ultimate goal: “I’d gladly trade a Cy Young for a World Series,” he said, highlighting the value of teamwork and shared success.
