Grandmother and Granddaughter Steal the Show on America’s Got Talent
In a heartwarming moment during the July 8 episode of America’s Got Talent, judge Simon Cowell paused a performance to give an unexpected chance to one contestant’s granddaughter. Gina Bellina had come to audition but it was her granddaughter Lilliana who caught the spotlight.
Gina shared the story of how she ended up on stage, revealing that Lilliana had secretly signed her up for the show without her knowledge. “I only found out two days before the audition,” Gina said, while Lilliana stood beside her with a guitar.
Gina expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m here with my granddaughter, and she’s the reason I’m here.” Lilliana admitted she was worried about her grandmother’s response to her decision but was relieved that Gina was excited to perform.
As the audience cheered, Gina began to sing an original song. However, Simon felt the performance wasn’t quite hitting the mark and asked Lilliana if she wanted to sing instead. The young girl nervously agreed and stepped up, delivering an impromptu audition that earned her a standing ovation.
“You’ve got Gina here, but weirdly, Gina got you here,” Simon remarked, praising Lilliana’s talent. He declared that she has “the better voice,” which Gina happily confirmed.
“Your granddaughter has a beautiful voice,” judge Howie Mandel added, while Sofía Vergara noted that the audience would love Lilliana because of her talent and charm.
After the judges deliberated, three of them voted yes for Lilliana to move on to the next round, although Mel B expressed her reservations. Despite that, Lilliana is set to advance, leaving the audience eager to see what comes next.
America’s Got Talent continues to air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
