The police haven’t said why the shooting happened, but it’s believed the teens were targeted for robbery.
The school community held a balloon release to remember Campbell. People spoke about Campbell’s joyful personality, his sister, friend, school staff and Slaughter’s parents.
Slaughter is recovering from surgery for his gunshot wounds.
Slaughter’s father described Campbell and Slaughter as inseparable friends. He also said Campbell was a bright kid with a bright future, always smiling and bringing positive energy.
The community is now calling for action to stop gun violence. Slaughter’s dad wants to raise awareness of the dangers young people face today.
