Jordan Shipley, a former football star known for his time with the Texas Longhorns, is now recovering at home after being released from the hospital. He had been receiving treatment for serious burns sustained in a ranching accident a few weeks prior.
His wife, Sunny Shipley, shared the news in an update, expressing immense gratitude for the support the family has received. While Jordan is now out of the hospital, she noted that he still faces a challenging recovery and is dealing with significant pain.
“Because I know so many are praying, I wanted to let you know that we left the hospital. I still can’t believe it,” Sunny wrote. She also acknowledged the long road ahead. “We have a hard and long journey ahead but you can guarantee he and I will carry it with joy and praise,” she added, highlighting their positive outlook despite the difficulties.
The accident occurred on the Shipley family ranch, near his hometown of Burnet, Texas. While working with a machine, it caught fire, causing severe burns to Jordan’s body. He was able to get help from a worker on the ranch, who took him to a local hospital. From there, he was quickly airlifted to a hospital in Austin for specialized treatment.
Sunny also shared her appreciation for the overwhelming support, noting that “there is no amount of words that will be sufficient to express the gratitude I feel of our friends, family, community and complete strangers.” The outpouring of love and prayers has undoubtedly been a source of strength for the family during this difficult time.
Doctors and nurses were surprised by his progress. “Numerous doctors, nurses and specialists kept telling us, as we were being discharged, that he is nothing short of a miracle and they’ve never seen someone come in to their care in his condition and leave this soon… much less be out of the hospital bed.”
While Jordan has been discharged, he isn’t quite ready to return to his regular home environment. The couple will be staying near the hospital to allow for frequent dressing changes and close monitoring as he continues to adjust.
Jordan Shipley is remembered as one of the most talented wide receivers in the history of the Texas Longhorns football program. His college career culminated in an impressive 3,191 receiving yards. Following his time at Texas, Shipley was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2010 NFL Draft. He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Jacksonville Jaguars during his professional career.
The Shipley family continues to express their thanks for the continued support and prayers as Jordan focuses on his recovery. They are hopeful and determined to face the challenges ahead with strength and optimism.
