Ben Shelton, a talented tennis player, recently made a heartfelt request for his sister, Emma, to receive some extra time off from her job at Morgan Stanley. This was so she could support him during his matches at Wimbledon. Thankfully, the appeal worked.
After moving on to face Lorenzo Sonego from Italy in the fourth round, Shelton spoke during an on-court interview. Among the crowd were his sister, Emma, and his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, a star with the U.S. national soccer team.
“I’ve had a great week. It’s not just about me. My family and my girlfriend are here, and my sister has attended every match so far. She’s my lucky charm,” remarked the 22-year-old American, who has already reached two Grand Slam semifinals. He noted that Emma needed to return to work starting Monday.
This comment drew some playful boos from the audience as Emma covered her face.
Shelton continued, “If anyone has connections to help her get a few extra days off, that would be fantastic.” This was after his victory over Marton Fucsovics from Hungary with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Later that day, Emma shared a joyful video on Instagram, showcasing Ben asking her if she managed to get the week off. She excitedly jumped up and down as he congratulated Morgan Stanley for the approval. The post featured the caption “thank you, MS” along with a few blue heart emojis and the phrase “return flight: cancelled.”
So far at Wimbledon, Shelton has shown impressive skill, winning all nine sets he played in the first week. He previously defeated Sonego during the Australian Open quarterfinals in January.
