Sheahan Steps Down from ICE, Aims for Congress
Madison Sheahan, previously a leading figure at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has announced her departure from the agency to pursue a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Ohio’s 9th Congressional District. Her decision signals a desire to bring her experience in securing our borders and enforcing immigration laws to the legislative branch.
Sheahan, who served as Deputy Director at ICE, is presenting herself as someone who understands the importance of a strong national defense, border security, and protecting American communities. In her announcement, she emphasized the need for representatives who will stand firmly behind policies that prioritize the safety and prosperity of American citizens.
Her time at ICE was marked by a focus on enforcing existing immigration laws and working to deport those who pose a threat to public safety. Sheahan believes that a nation’s first duty is to protect its citizens, and she sees secure borders as essential to achieving that goal.
The open seat in Ohio’s 9th district presents an opportunity for voters to elect someone who reflects their values and concerns about the direction of the country. Sheahan argues that the current representative, Marcy Kaptur, has been in Washington for too long and has become disconnected from the needs and concerns of the people back home. Kaptur, who has served in Congress since 1983, won her re-election in November 2024.
Sheahan’s supporters see her as a fresh face with a proven track record of leadership and a commitment to conservative principles. Her focus on border security, enforcing the rule of law, and supporting policies that promote economic growth is expected to resonate with voters in the district.
Kristi Noem, former governor and now head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), praised Sheahan as a dedicated public servant who has worked tirelessly to protect the country. Noem highlighted Sheahan’s leadership at ICE, where she helped to ensure that immigration laws were enforced and that dangerous individuals were removed from our communities.
Prior to her role at ICE, Sheahan served as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, overseeing a large budget and leading a team of hundreds of employees. Her diverse experience in both law enforcement and management has prepared her for the challenges of serving in Congress.
The race for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District is expected to be closely contested, with both parties vying for control of the seat. The district is seen as competitive, meaning that the outcome will depend on which candidate can best connect with voters and address their concerns.
Sheahan is positioning herself as the candidate who will fight for the values of hardworking Ohioans, prioritize border security, and work to create a more prosperous future for the country. Her campaign is expected to focus on issues such as job creation, tax cuts, and reducing the size and scope of government.
As the election approaches, voters will have the opportunity to hear from both candidates and decide who they believe is best equipped to represent their interests in Congress. Sheahan hopes that her message of conservative leadership and commitment to serving the people will resonate with voters and lead her to victory.
