Rubio, who has served as a senator since 2011, saw his confirmation take place late Monday night, just hours after Trump was sworn in as president. The Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee also voted unanimously in favor of Rubio earlier in the day, paving the way for the full Senate vote.
Bringing a solid background in foreign policy, Rubio has been a long-time member of both the Senate Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committees. He is also a proud first-generation Cuban American.

Regarding U.S. relations with China, Rubio underscored concerns about how the Chinese Communist Party has exploited the benefits of the global order while disregarding its responsibilities. He highlighted the need for a strong approach to counteract China’s aggressive maneuvers on the world stage.
While his confirmation sailed through with little opposition, some members of the Republican Party have raised concerns about Rubio’s past decisions, including his certification of the 2020 election results, which some Trump supporters contested.
