Nebraska Senate Hopeful Claims Independence, But Donations Tell a Different Story
Nebraska’s Dan Osborn, a labor union leader running for U.S. Senate, is telling voters he’s an “Independent” who won’t side with either party. However, new records show a lot of money is coming from well-known Democrats.
Osborn has received endorsements from Nebraska Democratic Party leaders and is using ActBlue, a big fundraising tool for Democrats. Money is also flowing in from Democrat leaders in Washington and Democrat groups.
Among those giving money to Osborn are Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and groups connected to former Democrat Senators Bob Kerrey and Jon Tester. A group started by Maryland Democrat Representative Jamie Raskin also gave $2,000.
New records also show Osborn is still getting help from The People United, a group that supports very liberal Democrats like Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Summer Lee, and Ilhan Omar.
Osborn’s website says he wants to “bring together a majority” to secure the border and believes we have more in common than what divides us. But critics say the money he’s taking from Democrats shows he’s not really an independent voice.
Senator Pete Ricketts’ campaign says Osborn is being “bought and paid for” by liberal donors from other states.
During his failed 2024 Senate run, Osborn got $5,000 donations from groups linked to Democrat Senators Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, and Sheldon Whitehouse. Warren’s campaign also gave him $2,000 last year.
Ricketts said that Warren is a far-left politician who supports things like the Green New Deal and taxpayer money for those who are in the country illegally. Ricketts says by taking money from Warren, Schumer, and Kerrey, Osborn is showing voters he will side with the Democrats.
In the final days of his 2024 race, Osborn received nearly $60,000 from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC). The main super PAC for Schumer and Senate Democrats spent $3.85 million to help Osborn’s 2024 campaign.
The agency helping Osborn with his campaign ads, Fight Agency, was started by Democrat strategists who worked for Bernie Sanders and winning Senate bids for Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman and Arizona’s Ruben Gallego.
Fight Agency has worked with left-leaning Democrats like New York City’s Zohran Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, and Representative Greg Casar.
