Super Bowl Week: Seahawks’ Emmanwori Addresses Ankle Injury
San Jose, CA – The Seattle Seahawks are preparing for Super Bowl LX, but a shadow of concern appeared when rookie cornerback Nick Emmanwori suffered an ankle sprain during Wednesday’s practice. An injury during the Super Bowl week can be a big setback for any team.
However, Emmanwori reassured fans and reporters on Thursday that he expects to play in his first Super Bowl. “I feel good,” he stated during a media availability. “The training staff has a good plan for me… I’ll be good to go.”
The injury occurred while Emmanwori was defending a pass. He rolled his ankle, resulting in a sprain. Fortunately, it was diagnosed as a low-ankle sprain, which is generally less severe than a high-ankle sprain.
After the injury, Emmanwori was able to walk off the practice field with support from his coaches and teammates.
Head Coach Mike Macdonald addressed the situation on Wednesday, saying the team would assess the situation and determine the next steps in Emmanwori’s recovery.
Emmanwori has had an impressive first season and has been a key player in the Seahawks’ defense. As the 35th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, he quickly became a starter, playing in 14 games and starting in 11. He recorded 81 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one interception. There was talk that he may win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Emmanwori’s versatility has been a major asset for the Seahawks. He is known for his ability to contribute in both run and pass defense, and this season he broke up 11 passes.
If Emmanwori is unable to play or is limited in his performance, Ty Okada is a potential replacement at the nickel position for Seattle.
Emmanwori isn’t the only Seahawks player dealing with an injury. Quarterback Sam Darnold has been managing an oblique injury throughout the playoffs. However, Coach Macdonald indicated that Darnold is “right on schedule” with his recovery and is expected to be ready for Sunday’s game at Levi’s Stadium.
Darnold played exceptionally well in the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams, throwing three touchdowns despite the oblique issue.
Football players are known for their determination to play, especially in a crucial game like the Super Bowl.
