In South Carolina, a man named Stephen Bryant was put to death by a firing squad. This happened on Friday. Bryant had been found guilty of killing three people back in 2004.
Before he was executed, Bryant had a special last meal. He chose to have a seafood mix, fried fish with rice, egg rolls, stuffed shrimp, two candy bars, and German chocolate cake.
The execution took place at a prison in Columbia, South Carolina. Three prison workers carried out the execution, and ten people watched. These included some of the victims’ family members. Bryant did not say anything before he died.
Bryant was found guilty of shooting and killing three people in 2004. During that time, he also broke into homes. He was 23 years old when he committed these crimes.
Bryant first killed a coworker. Then, he killed another person in their home. He even left messages written in blood on the wall, bragging about what he had done. Two days later, he killed another man.
In court, Bryant admitted he did these things. His lawyers said that he had wanted to get mental health help before the murders, but he couldn’t because he couldn’t afford it.
Before his death, Bryant asked that people not be turned away from getting mental health help just because they don’t have money. His lawyer said that Bryant showed kindness and bravery and loved his family and friends. He will be missed.
