Starbucks is making significant changes to its menu, leading to the removal of several customer-favorite drinks.
Starting March 4, the popular coffee chain will eliminate a number of drinks that haven’t been selling well. According to a statement, these beverages are either not frequently purchased, too complicated to prepare, or overlapping with other offerings in their menu.
During a recent earnings video, CEO Brian Niccol indicated that the company is shifting its focus back to its roots as a coffee company. This move includes a reduction of about 30% in its menu items.
The drinks that will be removed include the Iced Matcha Lemonade, Espresso Frappuccino, Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino, Java Chip Frappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, Frappuccino Crème Blended Beverages, White Hot Chocolate, Royal English Breakfast Latte, and the Honey Almondmilk Flat White.
While some favorites are leaving, Starbucks assures customers that many similar flavors will still be available. For instance, those who enjoyed the Iced Matcha Lemonade might find the Green Tea Lemonade to be a worthy alternative, sharing similar refreshing notes. Fans of the White Hot Chocolate can still enjoy the traditional Hot Chocolate, now with the option to add Mocha or White Mocha sauce.
On the brighter side, Starbucks is introducing three new drinks: Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha, Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte, and Iced Cherry Chai. Additionally, customers can look forward to a new food item—the Jalapeño Chicken Pocket—available at select locations.
The menu updates also include a new espresso drink—the Starbucks Cortado—made with three shots of Starbucks Blonde Espresso, complementing the refreshed offerings.
Niccol announced these changes during an earnings call, emphasizing the need to simplify the menu to allow for better innovation that resonates with customers. The change is part of a broader strategy that includes the return of free refills for in-store customers and updated policies regarding restroom access.
Starbucks continues to evolve while aiming to provide a better customer experience within its coffee culture.
