Houston rapper Sauce Walka was shot over the weekend in Memphis, leading to another man’s death in what officials are calling a targeted attack.
On Saturday afternoon, the Memphis Police Department reported a shooting at about 2:42 PM near the 100 block of George W. Lee Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered one victim dead at the scene, while Sauce Walka was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane, was hit in the thigh, according to his father, who spoke with local news outlets. He expressed gratitude that his son is expected to recover, saying, “Had it not been for God, my son would’ve been dead.”
The police stated that they have identified the vehicle used in the shooting and are actively working on making an arrest. They emphasized that this incident was not random, as early indications suggest that both the victims and suspects were known to each other.
The MPD reassured the public that downtown Memphis remains a safe area and committed to using camera footage and other resources to track down those responsible.
In a briefing following the shooting, officials noted that the victims were standing outside when multiple individuals exited a vehicle, opened fire without any prior conversation, and then fled the scene.
Sauce Walka is known for popular tracks like “Texas Cyclone” and has collaborated with several notable artists. He updated his fans on Instagram, expressing appreciation for the support and sympathy shared during this difficult time.
As the investigation continues, no names have been released for the victims, although social media has speculated about another Houston rapper’s involvement in the incident.
