Samaritan Biologics, a medical technology company based in Tennessee, is set to invest $5 million into a new manufacturing facility in Greenville County.
The new facility will cover 11,000 square feet and will be located on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus. This facility will feature five modern clean rooms designed for processing human cellular tissue products.
Samaritan Biologics is known for its human amniotic allograft products, which are used in wound care, surgical procedures, and limb preservation. Jerry Chang, one of the co-founders, noted that Greenville has developed into a hub of research and business, driving innovation in the region.
He stated, “With cutting-edge research and advanced therapies, Samaritan Biologics is bringing new hope for healing and stimulating economic growth while attracting talented individuals to the state.”
The facility will be housed in CU-ICAR’s Flex Lab One, a multi-tenant building intended for laboratory and product development activities. The construction of Flex Lab One received support from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration.
David Clayton, the executive director of CU-ICAR, expressed that Samaritan Biologics’ choice to establish itself on their campus showcases the innovative culture present at CU-ICAR and supports their goal of creating collaborations between universities and industries, thereby generating new job opportunities.
The expansion is expected to create about 85 new jobs over the coming years, spanning a variety of positions from executive leadership to specialized technical roles.
Max Stewart, CEO of the Greenville Area Development Corporation, mentioned that the company’s commitment to regenerative medicine fits perfectly into the growing life sciences sector in the region. He applauded Samaritan Biologics for its investment in Greenville, which reflects the high quality of talent and resources available in the area.
Founded in 2019 as a female- and minority-owned business, Samaritan Biologics aims to enhance patient outcomes through its innovative regenerative biologics. The new facility in Greenville will bolster its mission to provide healthcare professionals with effective tools for patient care.
