Samaritan Biologics, a medical technology company based in Tennessee, is set to establish a new manufacturing facility in Greenville County with an investment of $5 million. The facility will cover 11,000 square feet and will be located on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus. It will feature five advanced clean rooms dedicated to processing human cellular tissue products.
The company is known for its human amniotic allograft products, which are utilized in wound care, surgical procedures, and limb preservation. According to Jerry Chang, co-founder of Samaritan Biologics, the decision to open in Greenville reflects the area’s growth as a hub for research, business, and innovation.
Samaritan Biologics aims to bring hope for healing through its advanced therapies, while also contributing to economic development and attracting skilled professionals to the region, as Chang noted.
The manufacturing facility will be part of CU-ICAR’s Flex Lab One, a multi-tenant space designed for laboratory work, research, and product development. This project was supported by the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration.
David Clayton, executive director of CU-ICAR, expressed that the company’s choice to locate on their campus highlights the innovation culture present there and promotes collaboration between universities and industries, which will also lead to new job opportunities for the area.
Approximately 85 new jobs are expected to be created as Samaritan Biologics expands its operations, with positions ranging from executive roles to specialized technical jobs. Max Stewart, CEO of the Greenville Area Development Corporation, pointed out that the company’s commitment to regenerative medicine aligns well with the local life sciences ecosystem, showcasing the talent and resources available in Greenville.
Founded in 2019, Samaritan Biologics is a female- and minority-owned business focusing on the development and commercialization of regenerative biologics. The new facility in Greenville County will enhance their efforts to provide healthcare professionals with resources that improve patient outcomes.
