The trial for Ryan Routh, who is accused of trying to hurt President Trump at his golf club in Florida last year, is starting Thursday.
After picking a jury since Monday, a group of 12 people, plus four others, were chosen on Wednesday. The jury has six White women, four White men, one Black woman, and one Black man. The four extra jurors are two White women and two White men.
The trial will begin with opening statements at the courthouse in Fort Pierce, Florida on Thursday. The lawyers are expected to quickly start presenting their case.
About 180 people were called to possibly be on the jury. Both the lawyers and Routh, who is speaking for himself, asked the potential jurors questions to see if they could be fair.
Routh asked the people strange questions about things like Ukraine, the war in Gaza, and what they would do if a turtle was in the road.
Prosecutors say Routh had a rifle when Secret Service stopped him near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach in September 2024.
The judge in charge of the trial was appointed by President Trump. The trial is expected to last for a few weeks.
