Following President Trump’s re-election, actress Rosie O’Donnell, known for her outspoken political views, moved to Ireland with her daughter.
In a recent interview, O’Donnell revealed she briefly returned to the United States after over a year away, mainly to see her family and assess the possibility of a longer visit during her daughter’s school break.
O’Donnell said that living outside the U.S. has given her a different perspective, noting that American culture seems overly focused on “more, more, more,” and that she finds the news coverage in Ireland more balanced. She expressed that she doesn’t regret her decision to leave, feeling it was necessary for her well-being and that of her child. She described the current atmosphere in the United States as “scary,” with a sense that “something is really wrong.”
O’Donnell’s contentious relationship with President Trump is well-documented. In the past, President Trump even suggested he would consider revoking her citizenship, a move that sparked debate about the limits of presidential power under the Constitution. The Constitution protects the citizenship of those born in the United States, as guaranteed by the 14th Amendment.
O’Donnell has stated she intends to maintain her U.S. citizenship while also seeking Irish citizenship.
