The woke rot continues to spread, this time infecting the world of sports. Former NBA player Jalen Rose is now pushing the tired narrative that racism is behind the very structure of professional sports.
Here’s the play-by-play:
- Jalen Rose claims salary caps are racist.
- He says leagues with salary caps are “Black led.”
- He seems to have forgotten that the NHL has a salary cap.
- He also claims restrictions on players are a “residue of slavery.”
Rose’s Ridiculous Race Card
Rose recently went on a podcast and made the outlandish claim that salary caps in sports leagues are rooted in racism. He conveniently forgot to mention that the NHL, which features players from all backgrounds, also operates under a salary cap.
The suggestion that leagues with salary caps are somehow “Black led” is not only absurd, but it’s also deeply divisive. Are we really going to pretend that financial management is now somehow racially motivated?
Slavery? Seriously, Jalen?
To then claim that restrictions on when players can enter professional leagues are a “residue of slavery” is beyond the pale. This is the kind of hyperbolic rhetoric that does nothing but inflame tensions and distract from real issues.
Does Rose truly believe that preventing teenagers from being exploited is somehow akin to forced labor? It is reasonable to suggest rules for players who will enter a sport.
The Real Problem: The Woke Virus
This is the bigger issue: the insidious spread of woke ideology into every corner of our culture. It doesn’t matter if it’s education, entertainment, or now, even sports – nothing is safe from the constant drumbeat of division and grievance.
We are seeing another example of the “race card” being played to explain away basic economic principles and strategic management. This constant focus on race undermines the progress we have made and sets us back. It is not right to make everything about race.
What’s the long game?
Are we going to allow every aspect of our lives to be viewed through the lens of race, or can we find common ground and focus on what unites us?
