Thrill-seekers Rescued from Hersheypark Rollercoaster
On Sunday, visitors at Hersheypark experienced a dramatic moment when riders had to be rescued from the Comet, the park’s oldest rollercoaster, after the ride unexpectedly came to a stop. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. due to an issue described as an “off-ride guest problem,” which halted the train mid-ride.
A spokesperson for Hersheypark assured the public that their team followed protocol to ensure the safety of those on board. “Comet experienced a temporary stoppage on the track, caused by an unrelated off-ride guest issue. Our teams safely escorted guests off the coaster and back into the station without issue, and the ride was reopened,” they stated.
The Comet, a classic wooden coaster that has been thrilling riders since 1946, does not have any upside-down turns, making it a less precarious situation when it unexpectedly stopped. Onlookers noted that riders were able to make a relatively easy descent back down the slope.
This particular coaster is well-known but is now surrounded by newer attractions that offer more intense experiences. The nearby Skyrush, for instance, features dizzying drops that can be intimidating for some thrill-seekers.
Despite the excitement that amusement parks bring, Hersheypark has experienced some challenges this summer. Just a week ago, a little boy created a stir after he was found stranded on the monorail line. Quick thinking by a nearby father, who climbed a concession stand to reach the child, ensured he was safely brought back to the ground. Thankfully, the monorail was closed at the time, preventing further chaos.
In July, the park faced a much more tragic incident. A nine-year-old girl drowned in the wave pool at the waterpark section of Hersheypark. Sophia Subedi’s family described her as a bright and loving child who brought joy to everyone around her. The tragic loss was deeply felt by the community and serves as a haunting reminder of the importance of safety measures in public spaces.
As families continue to flock to amusement parks for entertainment and thrills, incidents like these raise questions about safety practices. Parents often have to balance the excitement of rides with the need for vigilance, ensuring that children remain safe while enjoying their day.
In conclusion, while the Comet ride’s halt offered a moment of concern, the quick response from Hersheypark staff ensured that everyone left the situation safely. The thrill of amusement parks is a cherished part of summer for many families, but it is crucial that safety remains a priority to keep these experiences enjoyable for all.
