Kennedy Family Calls for Resignation of Health Secretary
Washington — The Kennedy family is urging Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign from his position as Health Secretary after a heated congressional hearing. This week, he faced questions from both Democrats and Republicans regarding his controversial leadership of federal health agencies.
Kennedy’s sister, Kerry, and his nephew, Joseph P. Kennedy III, were especially vocal on social media. Joseph called his uncle a “threat to the health and wellbeing of every American,” asserting that his actions could harm everyone. Kerry echoed these sentiments, stating that medical decisions should be left to qualified professionals, not what she described as “misguided leadership.”
This outcry followed a three-hour Senate hearing, where Kennedy defended his recent attempts to roll back COVID-19 vaccine guidelines and made moves to dismiss high-ranking officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His family’s statements came just a day later.
Kennedy is not new to criticism from within his own family. Concerns were previously raised about his presidential ambitions, with some relatives opposing his nomination to serve in Trump’s cabinet, citing his controversial views on vaccines as disqualifying.
His time in office has seen significant changes in public health policies and agency operations, resulting in layoffs and revisions to vaccine guidelines. These decisions have alarmed various medical organizations and officials in several Democratic-controlled states, leading them to issue their own vaccine recommendations in response to his actions.
