Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia recently expressed her support for House Speaker Mike Johnson, despite previously attempting to remove him from leadership. Last year, Greene criticized Johnson, calling him “the Uniparty Speaker” and claiming he represented everything wrong with the Republican establishment, alleging he had failed conservatives while accommodating Democrats.
In a recent video, however, Greene stated she will vote for Johnson to continue as Speaker. She emphasized the need for the Republican Party to set aside differences and work together to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to them by the American people.
While Greene has shifted her stance, Rep. Thomas Massie from Kentucky, who backed the effort to oust Johnson last year, declared he will not support his reelection. In an interview, Massie insisted he would not change his vote, regardless of the pressure he might face.
In a show of support for Johnson, former President Donald Trump endorsed him for the role, praising him as a hardworking, committed individual who aligns with conservative values.
As the vote approaches, Johnson’s outlook remains uncertain. A clear majority is needed for him to secure the position, and even a few dissenting votes from within the Republican ranks could jeopardize his chances. Johnson himself expressed optimism about winning the gavel in the first round of voting, hoping for a united front among Republicans. Overall, the dynamics within the party are critical as they navigate this pivotal moment in leadership.
