Nick Reiner’s former lawyer says that Nick is “not guilty” of killing his parents, Rob and Michele Singer Reiner. The lawyer, Alan Jackson, said this after he quit the case.
Jackson spoke to reporters outside the courthouse in Los Angeles after Nick appeared in court on Wednesday, January 7. He didn’t say why he was leaving the case, only that things had changed that were out of his and Nick’s control.
Nick was supposed to be formally charged with murder that day, but now that will happen on February 23. A public defender will represent him. He hasn’t said if he is guilty or not.
When Nick came to court, he had shaved his head and was wearing a tan jumpsuit. He wasn’t wearing the special smock to prevent suicide that he wore the first time he appeared in court.
Rob and Michele were found dead in their home on Sunday, December 14. They had been stabbed, according to the coroner.
Nick was arrested soon after and is being charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The charges also say that he killed more than one person and that he used a knife.
Another lawyer, Nathan Hochman, said he believes Nick will be found guilty. But he also said that Nick has the right to a lawyer.
The Reiner family said they trust the legal system and won’t talk about the case anymore.
Rob and Michele met while Rob was directing the movie “When Harry Met Sally…” They had three kids together: Jake, Romy, and Nick. Rob also adopted a daughter, Tracey, when he was married to Penny Marshall.
