Reaves’ Buzzer-Beater Lifts Lakers to Victory
Minneapolis, MN – In a thrilling start to the 2025-26 NBA season, Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves delivered a game-winning shot at the buzzer against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. The Lakers secured a narrow 116-115 victory, thanks to Reaves’ heroics in the final seconds.
With just over six seconds remaining, Reaves received the ball near the half-court line. He skillfully maneuvered through the defense, driving to the foul line before releasing a floater that found the bottom of the net as time expired.
Overwhelmed by the moment, Reaves admitted after the game that the celebration felt like a blur. His teammates quickly surrounded him, celebrating the hard-fought win. Reaves ended the night with an impressive stat line, scoring 28 points and dishing out 16 assists.
Lakers head coach J.J. Redick praised Reaves’ performance, highlighting his growth and impact on the team. “I think last year he established himself,” Redick said. “This is who he is.”
The victory was especially significant for the Lakers, who have been dealing with injuries early in the season, missing key players like LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Reaves has stepped up in their absence, becoming a central figure in the team’s offense.
Earlier this season, Reaves exploded for 51 points in a win against the Sacramento Kings and followed that up with a 41-point performance in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. With the win against Minnesota, the Lakers improved their record to 3-2.
Coach Redick emphasized Reaves’ growing role as a leader on the team. “The big thing is he’s established himself as the leader,” Redick noted. “That’s big time. That’s what we need from him.”
Reflecting on the win, Reaves acknowledged the importance of bouncing back, especially after a playoff series loss last season. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to a significant road win, particularly with several players out due to injury.
“To have that opportunity for a big road win, especially with a lot of people out, is special,” Reaves said. “We kept encouraging me to go do what I do.”
Austin Reaves’ journey to becoming a key player for the Lakers is a notable one. He joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and signed a four-year contract before the 2023-24 season.
The Lakers will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season, relying on Reaves’ leadership and scoring ability.
