Man Sentenced to Life for Murdering Girlfriend
Kieron Goodwin, 33, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 35 years for the murder of his girlfriend, 29-year-old Olivia Wood. The tragic event took place just weeks after they started dating. Goodwin strangled Wood at his apartment in Frome, Somerset, on July 30, 2024. She sadly died later that day in the hospital.
During his trial at Bristol Crown Court, Goodwin had already admitted to engaging in “controlling and coercive” behavior towards Wood and three other women. He was also found guilty of various sexual offenses against these victims.
Prosecutors revealed that Wood had packed her belongings, indicating she was planning to leave Goodwin. An autopsy showed that she had a significant amount of cocaine in her system and injuries consistent with strangulation.
Witnesses described a troubling pattern in Goodwin’s relationships, where he initially showered his partners with affection before becoming abusive. Some victims shared that he made threats to harm himself if they tried to leave.
At the sentencing, survivors received indefinite restraining orders against Goodwin. One victim expressed the emotional turmoil, saying his behavior made it hard for anyone to see the abuse she suffered.
Family members of Wood spoke movingly about her kindness and spirit. Her sister said Goodwin took advantage of Olivia’s caring nature, while their mother remembered her as a loving person with a passion for helping animals.
This case highlights the serious issue of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help. If you or someone you know may be experiencing domestic abuse, please reach out to a local hotline for support.
