The new documentary “Melania” is exceeding expectations. Brett Ratner, the film’s director, says the positive reception is greatly appreciated.
Ratner shared that the former First Lady, Melania Trump, personally asked him to direct the film. He recounted a conversation with President Trump, where they both agreed it was meant to be. Ratner felt privileged to have been given such access and opportunity.
Melania Trump wanted a filmmaker who understood how to make movies for the big screen, not just a typical documentary director. Ratner said the goal was to reach a wide audience.
Despite critical reviews, audiences seem to love the film, with many seeing it multiple times. The director noted that President Trump mentioned that friends’ wives had watched it several times over the weekend.
“Melania” has become a box office success, particularly among conservative women over 55. It had the biggest opening for a documentary in over a decade.
Ratner emphasized that the film focuses on the role of the First Lady, avoiding political commentary. He was impressed by Melania Trump’s dedication to her duties and her compassion during visits to disaster areas.
The premiere of the film was held at the Kennedy Center. President Trump reportedly praised the movie, calling it “phenomenal,” “elegant,” and “sophisticated.” He expressed that he would like the film sent to leaders around the world.
Ratner believes that Melania Trump saw something in him that he didn’t recognize himself. He credits her vision for the project’s success.
