R. Kelly’s Furlough Request Denied by Judge
R. Kelly remains behind bars after a judge rejected his recent request for a temporary furlough. This decision comes as Kelly and his attorney continue to pursue legal options for his release.
Kelly’s lawyer, Beau B. Brindley, plans to file another motion to seek his client’s freedom, despite the dismissal of their initial emergency motion due to jurisdiction issues. The request was made in Illinois but was based on events that occurred in Arizona and North Carolina, where Kelly is currently held.
Brindley expressed that they anticipated challenges with jurisdiction, but felt it was crucial to act immediately due to serious threats to Kelly’s safety and health. He is especially worried about Kelly’s condition, as he has blood clots in his lungs and needs urgent surgical intervention.
In previous filings, Brindley claimed that there were conspiracies within the prison system against Kelly, including statements from another inmate suggesting that he was approached about harming Kelly while both were in detention facilities. This inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, has a troubled history with the law, including filing numerous civil suits and making threats against government officials.
Brindley recently argued that Kelly had been punished by being placed in solitary confinement, which he believes is detrimental to Kelly’s well-being. He also raised concerns about the medication Kelly is receiving while in confinement.
The Bureau of Prisons has not commented on these allegations. However, an Assistant U.S. Attorney stated that putting Kelly in solitary was a protective measure.
It is worth noting that Kelly is serving a 30-year sentence for serious charges involving sexual exploitation and coercion. The legal team is even reaching out to former President Donald Trump for potential clemency, although Kelly has no known relationship with Trump.
Brindley has vowed to continue fighting for Kelly’s release, emphasizing their determination in this ongoing battle.
