Queen Latifah Reflects on ‘The Equalizer’ as CBS Cancels Show After Five Seasons
Queen Latifah took to Instagram recently to share her thoughts following CBS’s announcement that The Equalizer would not return for a sixth season. The popular crime drama is set to conclude with its fifth season finale on May 4.
In her heartfelt post, the 55-year-old actress expressed gratitude for her time portraying Robyn McCall, stating, “Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be.” She thanked her producing partner Shakim Compere and shared how the series exceeded their expectations. Latifah expressed deep appreciation for the loyal fans, saying, “Y’all have been so loyal… and that’s exactly why we keep doing this.”
She reassured her audience that they won’t have to wait long to see her on screen again, teasing, “Don’t worry — I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon.”
CBS announced the cancellation just two days prior to the season finale. The Equalizer, which premiered in 2021, experienced declining viewership, moving from an average of nearly 8 million to around 6 million after being scheduled for a later slot on Sunday nights.
The show joined a list of other CBS cancellations, including S.W.A.T. and The Neighborhood. Latifah’s team, including co-stars Tory Kittles and Lorraine Toussaint, has formed a strong bond throughout the series, with Toussaint noting the family-like atmosphere among the cast.
Even as The Equalizer comes to a close, fans can look forward to Queen Latifah’s next project, which she promises to unveil soon.
