Priscilla Presley recently opened up about her marriage to the legendary Elvis Presley during a panel discussion at MegaCon Orlando. The 79-year-old shared her experience of discovering her husband’s infidelities in a way that took her by surprise—through fan letters that were sent to their home.
Reflecting on the challenges of being married to a superstar, Priscilla expressed how difficult it was to handle the constant attention and the presence of other men in their lives. “It was hard, you know, to get used to all the guys. I love them all, but it was a man’s world, and I was really the only woman,” she stated.
After their wedding in 1967, Priscilla explained that Elvis often traveled for work, adding strain to their relationship. On one occasion, while checking on their Palm Springs home, she decided to go through the mail. What she found was revealing and painful.
Many letters were filled with praise from fans, but some were more personal, stating things like, “Elvis, I had the best night with you.” Each note felt like a dagger, leading Priscilla to realize that her husband was perhaps living a double life. She noted that it became increasingly difficult to deal with Elvis’s time away and the stories that circulated about him during those periods.
Despite the struggles, Priscilla looked back fondly on her time with Elvis. She explained that they parted ways amicably after their divorce in 1973, emphasizing that he was a kind and beautiful man. “He was famous, loving, and a beautiful, beautiful man, but it was just not a good life for me,” she reflected. Priscilla mentioned that their bond remained strong, highlighting moments when Elvis would visit her home unannounced, even years after their separation.
Her recent appearance at MegaCon comes just over a year after attending the Emmy Awards with her granddaughter, Riley Keough, who was nominated for her role in “Daisy Jones & the Six.” The two shared a meaningful outing following a legal resolution over the trust of Priscilla’s late daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.
Priscilla expressed optimism about her family’s future, stating, “the Presley family is stronger than ever,” and called for privacy as they navigate their grief and come together as a family.
