Priscilla Presley recently shared her experience helping her son, Navarone Garcia, overcome addiction. In a new interview, Presley discusses the challenges Navarone faced with fentanyl and heroin.
In 2020, shortly after the death of her grandson Benjamin Keough, Navarone sought his mother’s help to quit fentanyl. Fentanyl is a very strong drug that can be dangerous. Presley provided support during his withdrawal. She recalls the difficult nights and the physical pain he endured.
After a period of recovery, Navarone relapsed with heroin. Presley again opened her home and heart to her son, helping him through the difficult withdrawal process once more.
Presley emphasizes the importance of family support in overcoming addiction. She says that Navarone eventually expressed his desire to quit drugs for good, and with her help, he was able to achieve sobriety.
Presley also noted the differences between fentanyl and heroin withdrawal, stating that fentanyl withdrawal was particularly severe. But, with perseverance, Navarone was able to get through it.
Presley believes that being understanding and supportive is crucial when dealing with a loved one’s addiction. She advises families to keep communicating and to be there for their loved ones, even when it’s difficult. She acknowledges that recovery can be a long and challenging journey, but with the right support, it is possible. She feels lucky that Navarone was ready to get help and that they were able to overcome this challenge together.
