Popeyes Worker Arrested After Shooting Co-Worker Over Biscuit Dispute
In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old employee, Rodney Wood, was arrested for allegedly shooting a coworker during a shift at a Popeyes restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 11. The dispute that escalated into violence reportedly began over an argument about burnt biscuits.
According to reports, a witness stated that the disagreement took place inside the Popeyes on South Boulevard before the two employees took their argument outside. The situation turned physical, leading to Wood allegedly pulling out a gun and shooting his fellow manager twice.
Video evidence from the scene is said to show Wood firing his weapon at close range, hitting the victim in the groin and chest. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rushed to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for emergency surgery.
After the incident, Wood fled the scene but was apprehended soon after in the same shopping center. He claimed to authorities that he was punched in the face three times during the confrontation and fired "warning shots" that were not meant to be lethal. However, police stated that Wood could not provide a valid explanation for using deadly force.
Wood has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. His bond has been set at $50,000. Both Wood and the victim were managers at the restaurant.
