Authorities in Colorado are looking into the hypothermia-related death of a 97-year-old woman, considering it a homicide.
Corrye Brewer was last seen on January 24 around 1 p.m. in Peyton, Colorado. Her family reported her missing the next day. According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Brewer had a cognitive impairment that impacted her memory and required medication.
On January 27, the National Center for Missing and Endangered issued a statement announcing that Brewer had been found deceased and expressed their condolences to her family. They offered support during this challenging time, emphasizing that the family is not alone in their grief.
Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office discovered Brewer’s body outside an abandoned house. An autopsy conducted by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office later classified her death as a homicide.
Reports indicate that a family member is suspected of intentionally leaving Brewer outside without her belongings or any means of seeking shelter. On the day she was found, temperatures fell to 16 degrees, and snow was present.
Brewer’s grandson spoke out, stressing the need for accountability regarding her tragic death. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the case.
