The Book of Dust Series Nears Its Conclusion
The beloved Book of Dust series by Philip Pullman is set to conclude with its third and final installment, titled The Rose Field. This exciting announcement was made on April 29, and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Lyra Silvertongue, a character who first captivated readers 30 years ago in His Dark Materials.
In The Rose Field, Lyra finds herself in a city filled with daemons—manifestations of one’s soul—as she searches for her companion, Pantalaimon. Meanwhile, her mentor, Malcolm Polstead, embarks on a parallel journey. Together, they follow a trail of roses in the ancient Silk Roads, aiming to uncover the mysteries surrounding Dust, a fundamental particle related to consciousness.
The story builds tension as various factions, including the military of the Magisterium, radical Men from the Mountains, and rogue scholars, converge on a mysterious red building in the desert. A new, unprecedented threat looms, promising to reshuffle the dynamics between friends and foes.
Pullman emphasizes themes of change and growth—psychological, moral, and emotional—in this book, describing it as both a thrilling adventure and a coming-of-age tale. Lyra’s journey will challenge her beliefs and push her to discover deeper truths about the world and herself.
The Book of Dust series began with La Belle Sauvage and continued with The Secret Commonwealth, set in the same captivating universe as His Dark Materials.
Over the years, Pullman’s works have gained widespread acclaim, with more than 49 million copies sold worldwide. His storytelling has also been adapted into a successful HBO Max series. Fans can mark their calendars—The Rose Field will be available on October 23, 2025, and is currently available for preorder at various booksellers.
