The New England Patriots have officially traded quarterback Joe Milton III to the Dallas Cowboys. Milton shared the news through a social media post on Wednesday.
According to reports, the Cowboys are acquiring Milton along with a seventh-round draft pick in exchange for a fifth-round pick. This move gives the Cowboys a promising young backup to support starting quarterback Dak Prescott, especially after they lost Cooper Rush to the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. Rush had filled in for Prescott during his injury last season, starting in eight games.
Milton, drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 draft, spent his rookie season primarily on the practice squad. He had limited playing time behind rookie quarterback Drake Maye and backup Jacoby Brissett, but he made a strong impression in the season finale by rushing for a touchdown and throwing for another in a victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Milton’s future with the Patriots became uncertain after New England signed quarterback Josh Dobbs to a two-year contract last month, paving the way for the trade to Dallas. This transfer offers both the Cowboys and Milton a new opportunity as they look to the upcoming season.
