Couple Charged in Baby’s Death
Jake and Rebecca Haro have been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of their 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro. On Tuesday, August 26, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office announced additional charges against the couple for making a false police report.
Both parents are currently being held on $1 million bail. They had reported that their son was kidnapped from a parking lot in Yucaipa, California, near a Big 5 Sporting Goods store on August 14. Rebecca claimed that while she was changing Emmanuel’s diaper, she was knocked unconscious and woke up to find him missing.
In the days following Emmanuel’s disappearance, Rebecca made emotional public appeals for his return. However, investigators noticed inconsistencies in her story, leading the couple to become less cooperative. Authorities have now declared that they believe Emmanuel has passed away.
Court records reveal Jake’s troubling history; he was previously convicted of willful child cruelty in a 2018 incident involving his then 10-week-old daughter. Injuries to the child were severe, requiring urgent medical attention. Medical reports indicated signs of abuse and neglect.
Jake later entered a plea deal for child neglect in 2023 and received a suspended prison sentence, along with probation. He faced a probation violation charge later that year for being found with a firearm.
Jake and Rebecca continue to assert their innocence at this time, with no legal representation listed on their court documents.
