A firefighter paramedic in Kansas City has tragically died after being stabbed by a patient he was transporting to the hospital.
On the morning of April 27, 29-year-old Graham Hoffman was fatally injured during what started as a standard medical call. According to city officials, he was stabbed in the heart while on his way to the hospital.
Despite the efforts of his fellow Kansas City Fire Department members to save him, Hoffman was rushed into surgery but ultimately did not survive.
The incident occurred after police were called to a highway to assist a woman in need. Emergency medical services were then requested to transport her. While on the way to the hospital, the patient allegedly attacked Hoffman with a weapon.
The suspect is currently in custody but has not been identified publicly.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas expressed his sorrow, stating that Graham exemplified the city’s spirit of selfless service, highlighting the profound sadness felt by the community given the circumstances of his death.
Hoffman had been a member of the Kansas City Fire Department since 2022. Interim City Manager Kimiko Gilmore emphasized that Hoffman’s bravery and dedication to helping others would always be remembered.
