A man has been arrested in Palm Springs, California, for allegedly stabbing a hiker on New Year’s Eve.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on December 31, 2025. The hiker was walking on the CV Link trail when he was attacked.
Police have identified the suspect as Jacob Masters, who lives in Palm Springs. He was arrested on Sunday, January 11 and is facing charges of attempted murder and resisting arrest.
According to police, the hiker made eye contact with a man on the trail. About 15 minutes later, the man, now believed to be Masters, put on a ski mask and started yelling before attacking the hiker and knocking him down.
The hiker fought back, and the attacker ran away. The hiker then realized he had been stabbed. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police say the attack appears to have been “unprovoked” and not a robbery.
Masters was found by police on E. Ramon Road. He tried to run away when officers tried to stop him, but they caught him near the CV Link trail. The police are still trying to figure out why the attack happened.
