Toronto Blue Jays Sign Kazuma Okamoto to Multi-Year Deal
The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant investment in their team, securing infielder Kazuma Okamoto with a four-year contract worth $60 million. Sources familiar with the agreement confirmed the deal, noting that it includes a $5 million signing bonus.
Okamoto, a six-time All-Star in Japan, brings a strong batting record to the Blue Jays, with a .277 average, 248 home runs, and 717 RBIs over 11 seasons. He has been a dominant force in the Central League, leading in home runs multiple times.
The addition of Okamoto could shift the team’s dynamics, potentially impacting the roles of existing players. With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. already at first base, Okamoto is expected to play primarily at third base.
This signing is part of a larger effort by the Blue Jays to strengthen their roster. The team has also recently added pitcher Dylan Cease and other players, signaling a commitment to competing at the highest level. These moves reflect a focus on investing in talent. The Blue Jays will also owe the Yomiuri Giants a posting fee for Okamoto.
