Police Officer Arrested for Kidnapping at Disney Resort
An Alabama police officer was taken into custody at a Disney resort in Florida on accusations of kidnapping. David Cunningham, 22, from Mobile, was arrested on June 3 in Orange County after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred on May 24 during a party in Harrison County, Mississippi. During this event, Cunningham allegedly handcuffed a 21-year-old man and placed him in the back of his police car. Authorities say he had no legal authority to act outside his home area of Prichard, Alabama.
Reports indicate the incident began after the young man accidentally shot the homeowner’s dog during a gathering. After handcuffing him, Cunningham reportedly drove away from the party with the man still restrained. He was later pulled over during a traffic stop, where he had his police badge and firearm.
Although neither Cunningham nor the man was arrested at that moment, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office later issued a warrant, classifying Cunningham’s actions as kidnapping. A second warrant was also put out for Kristin Allen, a passenger with Cunningham, for allegedly providing false information to authorities.
After his arrest at the Disney resort, Cunningham is now being held on a $500,000 bond, pending extradition to Mississippi. The Prichard Police Department has announced an internal investigation to clarify the situation and evaluate any policy breaches.
