Russian officials report that a Ukrainian drone strike hit a cafe in a Russian-controlled area of Ukraine, resulting in 27 deaths. The location was reportedly hosting New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Svetlana Petrenko, a spokeswoman for Russia’s Investigative Committee, stated that the attack targeted a cafe and hotel in Khorly, where civilians were gathered. She added that 31 individuals were injured and that a terrorism investigation has begun.
Ukrainian military officials deny targeting civilians, insisting their strikes are limited to Russian military sites and infrastructure. A spokesman for Ukraine’s General Staff stated that they adhere to international law.
These accusations come as diplomatic efforts led by the U.S. seek to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Russia has also claimed that Ukraine launched a drone attack on President Putin’s residence.
In a separate incident, Russia reported intercepting 64 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory. Additionally, the governor of Belgorod, a Russian region bordering Ukraine, accused Ukrainian forces of a missile strike on the city, causing injuries and property damage.
