Charges Filed Against Crown Princess’s Son
Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, is facing serious allegations of rape and bodily harm, as announced by Oslo police on June 27.
The charges result from a lengthy investigation that began following Høiby’s arrest in the summer of 2024. He was initially held on accusations related to bodily harm. According to police, evidence was collected through text messages, interviews, and several searches.
Høiby has cooperated with the investigation and has been questioned multiple times over the past several months. His lawyer, Petar Sekulic, stated that Høiby takes the charges very seriously but does not admit to any crimes, particularly concerning sexual abuse or violence. Sekulic expressed hope that Høiby will be cleared if he is formally indicted.
The specific charges against Høiby include one count of rape with intercourse, two counts of rape without intercourse, four counts of sexual offensive behavior, and bodily harm. Police attorney Andreas Kruszewski mentioned that the investigation involves a “double-digit number” of victims.
Høiby is not in the line of succession for the Norwegian throne and has chosen to lead a private life away from public duties. His mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, noted that the family values his importance while recognizing the challenges of his role in the public eye.
